Matt Irwin is a former NHL defenseman with an impressive career spanning 11 years and 461 games across teams including the San Jose Sharks, Boston Bruins, Nashville Predators, Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, and Washington Capitals. Renowned for his team-first mentality, Irwin is excited to bring his leadership to the Medea Charitable Foundation, where he aims to empower youth through sports.
Irwin believes that hockey and other sports have given him invaluable life lessons that can equally benefit children in their communities. “Hockey specifically, but all sports that I have had the opportunity to play have provided me with a foundation that I know many children in our communities could benefit from as well. The life lessons that sports provide are extremely valuable to youth on and off the playing surface. I hope to deliver these same opportunities to our youth,” he stated. Through his work with the foundation, Irwin is committed to helping young people access the transformative power of sports.
